Privacy policy

This policy covers the NAJ Times website at najtimes.ca and the NAJ Times iOS app, including beta builds distributed through Apple TestFlight. Both talk to the same family account and the same puzzles, so the same rules apply everywhere.

By using either one you agree to this policy and to our Terms of Service.

For parents: your name, email address, and a securely hashed password. We never see or store your actual password.

If you use Sign in with Apple: the account identifier Apple gives us and the email address Apple shares (which may be Apple's private relay address if you choose to hide yours). Your name is used only as a display name. We link accounts by the email Apple verifies, never by anything typed in the app.

For children: only what a parent enters — a first name (or nickname), an age range, and a cartoon avatar. Children never have their own email, password, or account.

Play activity: which puzzles were played, scores, and streaks, so parents can see progress. Sports quizzes and practice puzzles are not recorded.

Support email: if you write to us, we keep the message so we can reply.

The iOS app keeps your sign-in token in the device Keychain, and saves in-progress boards and any results waiting to sync in the app's local storage. Signing out or deleting the app removes them. Your light/dark appearance choice is also saved on the device until you change it or delete the app.

The website uses only the cookies it needs to work: one that keeps the parent signed in and one that remembers which child profile is playing, plus one that remembers your light/dark appearance choice if you pick one. No third-party cookies, and nothing stored for advertising.

We only ever use anonymous, aggregate analytics — counts of page or screen views, performance timings, and crashes. This kind of analytics uses no cookies, no device fingerprinting, and no advertising identifiers, and it is never tied to a family account or a child profile.

The website currently uses this kind of cookieless analytics. We may add the same kind of anonymous analytics to the iOS app in the future; if we do, it will follow the exact same rules, and this policy will be updated to say so.

TestFlight beta builds: Apple may share crash logs and any feedback you submit through TestFlight with us. That data is handled under Apple's TestFlight terms and is used only to fix bugs.

No advertising, no ad trackers, and no analytics that profile children.

We never sell or share personal information with third parties for marketing.

Children cannot communicate with other users — there is no chat, comments, or messaging anywhere in the app.

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Every account is created and controlled by a parent or guardian.

Our hosting and database providers store the data described above on our behalf. They may keep it on servers outside the country you live in.

Resend delivers account emails (for example, password resets) to parents only.

Apple provides Sign in with Apple, the App Store, and TestFlight under its own privacy policy.

Sports quiz team logos and player photos are loaded from the leagues' and their partners' public image servers. Like any image on the web, those servers see the device's network address when a picture is fetched; we send them nothing else.

Puzzle content is prepared before publication. The live app does not send family, child, or play data to a content-generation service.

Parents can edit or remove child profiles at any time. Removing a profile deletes the child's name, age range, avatar, and streaks, and detaches any remaining play records from that child. Deleting the family account removes everything.

To delete the whole family account and all related data, email us from the address on the account. We will confirm and complete the deletion within 30 days.

You can sign out of the iOS app or delete it at any time; your account and progress stay available on the website until you ask us to delete them.

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date below. Meaningful changes will also be announced in the app.
